Do you know Jesus prayed for you? He did. Look at the 17th chapter of the book of John. He is praying for his disciples, the ones God gave Him to mentor, then verse 26 states, I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me because of their testimony. It’s there, look it up and see what all He prayed for them, and us.
There is another time He prayed for a group of people. These were not even interested in Him except to get rid of Him. In fact, they were involved in crucifying Him. He was on the cross, yet His love bypassed all the physical and spiritual pain and He asked forgiveness for them. Luke 23:34, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
There is a song by a local musician that reflects on these words and this message which applies to everyone of us. We all need the forgiveness and we all need to realize, as much as possible, how he loves us.
Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
Father, forgive them, they did the only thing they knew.
Father, forgive them,
I paid the price to set them free to follow Thee.
I broke the bonds of death
from sin to set them free.
I paid the price of sin
so they could let you in.
Oh I love them so!
I urge you to think about your response to this kind of love, this kind of God, this One who longs for your fellowship.
God, thank you that you “love us so.” Thank you for all you did to provide forgiveness for us long before we even existed. Thank you for your prayers for us from so long ago. Thank you that you are still loving us and forgiving us.
