The Rev. Sara Galindo injured in auto accident; prayers are encouraged

Daily Iowegian

CENTERVILLE — The Rev Sara Galindo, Pastor at Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville, was critically injured in a one car roll-over accident on Highway 5 in southeast Marion County on Jan. 28 in early morning heavy fog en route to a scheduled Minister's Institute training/forum in Newton.

Many thanks go out to the Marion County Sheriff, Jason Sandholdt and the first responders from several units for arriving quickly on the scene.

Sara had to be extricated from the totaled car and transported by ambulance to the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines where she continues to be cared for.  Her injuries include multiple fractured ribs, fractured lumbar vertebrae, multiple contusions and yet-to-be-determined issues. A tracheotomy was performed on her Wednesday of this week to aid in her breathing and lung health, thus she is now more comfortably and safely connected to a ventilator. Sara remains in critical but stable condition given her injuries.

When Sheriff Sandholdt discovered at the scene that Sara is a pastor, he later said, "I know God was surely watching over her, as it is a miracle she survived this accident!"

If you wish to send her well wishes, cards may be sent to: Iowa Methodist Medical Center, the Rev Sara Galindo, CCU-18, 1200 Pleasant St., Des Moines, IA  50309.

Prayers are also encouraged.

Respectfully and with great appreciation for your compassionate caring, Drake Avenue Christian Church members and friends.
