---- — In Luke 17, some of the leaders asks Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus told them that if they openly had faith the size of a mustard seed, they could tell a mulberry tree to be uprooted and planted in the sea and it would do it.
This makes me wonder how much faith is enough. We worry and fret and think we don’t have enough faith, when it comes to the crucial things in our life, when it really is so simple. All we have to do is believe.
I think we need to look to the little children to figure this out.
I read a story, recently, about a little girl, who got lost in the woods near her house. The farmer who owned the land found her and said to her, “Don’t be afraid. I will take you home.” The little girl just very calmly said, “I wasn’t afraid. I knew you would come.” The farmer asked how she knew this. She said, “I was praying you would come.” The farmer was a bit bewildered because when he came upon her she was saying the A, B, Cs. She said, “I didn’t know the right words to say, so I was just saying the letters. I knew God would put them together better than I could.” Oh for the faith of a little child. Even though this girl didn’t even know how to pray the words, she had no doubt that God would take care of her.
Now God doesn’t want us going around moving trees; but he does want us to get the fact that if only we would put our trust in him, our life would be so much simpler and so would the lives of those around us.
Almost everyone believes that Jesus died on the cross and on the third day, came back to life. Now if we can believe something as overwhelming as that, why is it so hard to believe that God can save us from some trivial thing? We grownups make life so complicated.
It is all so simple. God sent his son to earth to die for our sins. God brought his son back from the dead and took him back to heaven to prepare a place for us. God is always by our side and there is no task too big for God to handle. That is all there is to it. Nothing is impossible with God.
