By Julie Clark, Correspondent
Pastor Dianne Christopher will be finishing her interim at First United Methodist Church this Sunday. Christopher will be moving on to Dubuque to serve as Sr. Pastor at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She will be part of the Intentional Interim Team while in Dubuque helping to balance the church congregation.
St. Luke's is the church of any denomination in the state of Iowa. It is a downtown, stone structure that is toured by many every year because of its beautiful display of Tiffany glass. Every window in the entire church is Tiffany, giving it the ranking of third largest Tiffany display in the world.
Christopher has spent the last four years in Centerville helping to get the church back on balance. "I will be leaving Centerville with mixed emotions. I loved it here. The community faith and dedication was great," said Christopher.
The Church undertook major construction while Christopher was in Centerville, every wall was worked on in the church which was a great experience. Also the community understands what it is to be a mission, putting Christian faith to work.
Christopher also enjoyed her role in the Rotary and serving the community with prayers, including giving the prayer at the 100-year celebration at the courthouse.
The spirit of ecumenism, variety of faith in the county and pulling together are all well noted in the community.
For the past three years Christopher's grandson, Shaquille Christopher has lived with her in Centerville and attended Centerville Schools. "He will miss Centerville and the individualized attention," said Christopher.
Replacing Christopher will be Terra Amundson who will carry on the leadership with no break in stride. She will take the pulpit on June 29.
Sunday church services begin at 9:30 a.m., following services there will be a reception for Christopher from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. at the church, the public is invited to attend all services.
