Albia Episcopalians to host 'Waters of Hope' bike riders

A 10-day, 1,000-mile bike ride around Iowa is planned starting on May 1, and culminating on Pentecost (May 10).

A core group of 12 to 20 riders will be making the grueling 1,000-mile journey. They will be joined by others riding fewer days or even partial days in support of clean water projects (like chlorinators and deep water wells) for the people of Swaziland and the Sudan where thousands of people die daily from a lack of clean water.

Another goal is to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals established by the United Nations.

Waters of Hope is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Episcopal Church. You can check on the progress of the ride at www.watersofhope.org.

On the web page you can find out how you can help by either donating money or lending support to the riders.

Waters of Hope is committed to changing the world for the better and having fun at the same time. Check out the web page and plan to visit the riders at Grace Church at 2nd and 2nd in Albia.

The riders will begin their trek at 9 a.m. on May 1 from Keokuk and will travel 116.84 miles before they reach Albia between 3 and 5 p.m. that day. After the riders have showered and eaten a hearty meal, they will join other worshippers at Grace Church for a 6:30 p.m. ecumenical service of song and prayer. Because May 1 is Ascension Day the service will be especially joyful.

Riders will address the need for clean drinking water and will answer questions. All people with interest and questions are invited to participate.
