Sid Davis, from Davis Homes, reported an industrial reliant space heater taken from a job site at 2736 Highway J22 Union Township. The space heater was valued at $2,600.

Jan. 2

Tim Swan, of Corydon, reported to Corydon Police that several tools were missing from his shop on East Marion Street in Corydon. The total value of the missing items was listed at $1,366.

Jan. 7

Des Moines Police arrested Jake Robert Weller, 28, on a Wayne County warrant for contempt of court. Weller was transported to Corydon and was held in Wayne County Jail to serve 47 days.

Katherine Houser, of Corydon, reported to Corydon Police that items were missing from the residence.

Jan. 9

Corydon Police investigated a property damage accident in the Hy-Vee parking lot in Corydon. A 2006 Toyota Camry driven by Charles Archie Poindexter, 70, of Allerton, was backing from a parking space and struck a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Craig Paul Phinney, 40, of Indianola. Damage to Phinney’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. No damage was caused to Poindexter’s vehicle.

Jan. 17

Corydon Police investigated a personal injury accident at Highway 2 and Franklin Street in Corydon. A 2011 Chevrolet van driven by Deborah Lousie West, 55, of Centerville and a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Scott Gregory Powers, 29, Princeton, Mo., collided in an intersection. Powers and a passenger were transported to the Wayne County Hospital by the Wayne County Ambulance. Damage to West’s vehicle was estimated at $4,000 and to Powers’ vehicle was $5,000. West was issued a citation for failure to yield upon making a left turn.

Jan. 18

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested Elizabeth Nichols-Hofert, 44, of Seymour, following an incident at 1881 135th Street in Corydon. Nichols-Hofert was charged with operating while intoxicated and reckless driving after striking the deck of the residence while driving through a fence and out into the pasture. Nichols-Hofert appeared before the magistrate later in the day and was released after posting bond.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
