July 1

4:30 p.m. Criminal mischief was reported in the 500 block of East Van Buren Street. The victim reported damage to a 1978 Chevrolet and a 2006 Chevrolet including dents on fenders and multiple scratches.

July 4

7:22 a.m. Criminal mischief was reported in the 1800 block of South 11th Street. The victim reported several items, including a trash can, parking sign, down spout and building had been spray painted. Damage was estimated at $500.

July 5

6:43 p.m. Mildred Adamson, of Centerville, was driving a 1988 Buick northbound on North Park when she met a vehicle traveling southbound. Adamson moved to the side to create more room for the oncoming vehicle and her vehicle sideswiped two legally parked vehicles. The vehicles were a 2004 Chevrolet owned by Kris Shondel, of Centerville, and a 2004 MC owned by Darrin Carson, of Centerville. Damage to Adamson's vehicle was estimated at $100. Damage to Shondel's vehicle was estimated at $1,100. Damage to Carson's vehicle was estimated at $500. Adamson was charged with failure to maintain control.

July 6

1:56 p.m. Dustin Kenneth Saldana, 26, was charged on the Centerville Square with trespassing.

10:55 p.m. Brandin Lee Cole, 19, of Centerville, was charged on the west side of the Centerville Square with possession of alcohol under age.

July 7

5:05 a.m. Matthew Daniel Bowlden, 23, of Centerville, was charged at 213th Avenue and Highway J29 with possession of a controlled substance, interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia, putting debris on the highway and having an open container in a motor vehicle. He was later released on his own recognizance.

6:08 a.m. Ashley Elaine Peterson-Campas, 24, of Centerville, was charged at 213th Avenue and Highway J29 with OWI, first offense. She was later released on her own recognizance.

July 8

3:34 p.m. Mary Benz, of Centerville, was backing a 2008 Chevrolet from a parking space in the 300 block of East Oak Street when her car collided with a legally parked 2006 Toyota owned by Cynthia White, of Centerville. Damage to Benz's vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to White's vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

7:17 p.m. Shawn Russell Maxson, 30, Jesus Serrano Medina, 25, and Joshua Joseph Allen Cabossart, 24, all of Centerville were each charged on the Centerville Square with public intoxication. Medina was later released on a promise to appear and Cabossart was released on his own recognizance.

9:14 p.m. Randy Gale West, 57, of Centerville, was charged in the 900 block of West Maple Street with simple assault and child endangerment.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
