April 18

5:13 p.m. Trevor John Gavigan, 16, of Centerville, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on 567th Street turning left onto 310th Avenue when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it entered the west ditch landing in a culvert hitting a ditch embankment, coming to rest on the front end in a vertical position. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000. A fence owned by Christopher Scott Snider, of Moulton, had an estimated $200 in damage. Gavigan, Chad Lee Sheets, 16, of Mystic, and Madison Dawn Newland, 15, of Moulton, were each transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Centerville to be treated for possible injuries. Gavigan was charged with failure to maintain control.

April 18

Six juveniles were charged in the 30000 block of 586th Street with possession of alcohol under age.

April 19

6:25 p.m. Danny Alan Graham, 51, of Exline, went through the sex offender registry process in the 200 block of East Third Street.

8:59 p.m. Walter Leon Baugher, Sr., 62, of Ottumwa, was driving a 2005 Kia Sedona eastbound on Highway 2 when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

April 20

Christopher Lester Cook, 27, of Centerville, was charged with two counts of forgery and fourth degree theft in the 500 block of East Fair Street. He was later released on a promise to appear.

April 23

8:34 p.m. Dixie Lee Serna, 49, of Centerville, was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty eastbound in the 16000 block of Highway 2 when a deer entered the roadway and struck the right side of the vehicle. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

8:49 p.m. Charles Christopher Dixon, 44, of Centerville, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma south in the 29000 block of Highway J3T when three deer entered the roadway and the vehicle struck one. Damage was estimated at $6,000.

April 24

Barbara Kaye Kellar, 26, of Albia, was charged at the Law Center with child endangerment. She was later given pre-trial release.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
