March 25

8:08 a.m. Rebecca Ann Bills, 47, of Mystic, was driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer south on Highway T14 toward Highway 2. As Bills slowed for the intersection of the highways the vehicle began to slide on the ice. The left rear of the vehicle slid up onto the center island knocking the stop sign and post down. Damage to Bills’ vehicle was estimated at $500. Damage to the stop sign and post was estimated at $200.

March 26

4:05 p.m. Deann Lynn Patterson, 44, of Moulton, was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry west on 265th Avenue. Dora Lynn Peterson, 53, of Moulton, was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor east on 265th Avenue. Both vehicles were toward the middle of the roadway because the shoulders of the roadway were soft and muddy. Both vehicles crested a hill and sideswiped each other. Damage to Patterson’s vehicle was estimated at $200. Damage to Peterson’s vehicle was estimated at $200.

March 30

1:20 p.m. A 14-year-old female juvenile was charged at the Law Center with simple assault.

March 31

11:07 a.m. Betty Lou Stansberry, 75, of Agency, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala west in the 18000 block of Highway J46. The driver stated that a vehicle came east around a curve in the road and was in the west bound lane. Stansberry swerved to miss the oncoming vehicle and went off the north side of the roadway. Stansberry was transported to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance with non-incapacitating injuries.

4:03 p.m. Amber Chevelle Spinler, 21, of Centerville, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am west on 508th Street. The vehicle met a non-contact van at the crest of a hill going east. Spinler swerved her vehicle to the right and the vehicle slid into the south ditch. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

8:28 p.m. Debra Jean Kovacevich, 57, of Rathbun, was charged at 107 Main St. with simple assault. She was later released on her own recognizance.

April 2

1:41 p.m. Vincent Leon Crabbe, 46, of Albia, was charged at the Law Center with failure to appear. He was later released on his own recognizance.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
