Aug. 18

12:54 a.m. Robert Alan Reed, Jr., 36, of Ridgway, Penn., driving a 2004 Honda motorcycle on Highway J18 near 175th Avenue had his passenger, Lesley Marie Lopez, 28, of Independence, Mo., fall off. Lopez sustained incapacitating injuries and was life flighted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Reed was not injured but was charged with charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Aug. 30

6:33 p.m. Zachary James Elarton, 20, of Centerville, driving a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle east in the 15000 block of Highway J29 went of the right side of the road entering a curve. Elarton was listed with non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Mercy Medical in Centerville. Damage was estimated at $4,000. Elarton was charged with failure to maintain control. failure to have a valid driver’s license and failure to prove security against liability.

Aug. 31

9:37 a.m. Garrett Wayne Thomas, 20, of Numa, was charged at the Law Center with drunken driving, first offense. He was released at 5:43 p.m. on promise to appear.

10:47 p.m. Ronella Jo Chenese Chambers, 42, of Oskaloosa, was charged at Island View campgrounds at Rathbun Lake with public intoxication. She was released Sept. 1 at 10:11 a.m. on her own recognizance.

Sept. 1

Joey Lee Fenton, 41, of Udell, driving a 2001 Chevrolet K2500 west in the 27000 block of Highway 2 turned on the turn signal and was slowing to enter a field when Andrew Ira Goodson, 22, of Bloomfield, driving a 2001 Chevrolet K2500 HD, struck him from behind. Damage to Fenton’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Goodson’s vehicle at $4,000. Goodson was charged with failure to maintain control.

Sept. 3

4:50 a.m. Michael Dean Johnson, 45, of Centerville, driving 1999 Chrysler Cirrus south on Highway 5 when a deer entered the road and was struck. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

Sept. 5

8:53 p.m. Mark Jeffrey Judge, 29, of Plano, was charged in the 12000 block of Highway J18 with domestic assault enhanced, serious.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
