The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated a property damage accident on Highway S40 in Corydon Township. A 2008 Toyota Tacoma driven by James Robert Matherly, 22, of Centerville, was southbound on Highway S40 when the driver lost control on the icy roadway. The vehicle slid into the west ditch coming to rest on its side. Damage to Matherly’s truck was estimated at $2,650.
MFA in Humeston reported that someone attempted to break into their building overnight but were unsuccessful. Damage to a door and lock was listed at $150.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated a personal injury accident on Highway S56 in Wright Township. A 2012 GMC U-Haul truck driven by Rosalee McLean Ratterree, 75, of Promise City, was southbound on Highway S56 approximately 1/2 mile south of the Lucas County line when the driver lost control on the icy pavement. The truck then went across the centerline and into the east ditch where it went partially through a fence and into a group of trees. The driver was taken by the Wayne County Ambulance to the Wayne County Hospital. Damage to the U-Haul truck was estimated at $6,000. Also assisting at the scene were the Russell First Responders and the Russell Fire Department.
Corydon Police investigated a property damage accident at West Jefferson and South DeKalb streets in Corydon. A United Parcel Service delivery truck driven by Jesse Scott Wright, 44, of Ottumwa, and a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Marshall Emmerson Jay, 24, of Moulton, were eastbound side-by-side on West Jefferson when Jay attempted to make a right turn from the outside lane onto South DeKalb and struck the truck. Damage to the UPS truck was estimated at $2,000 and to Jay’s truck at $1,500. Jay was issued a citation for turning from an improper lane.
Chariton Police arrested Edwin Dallas Prothero, 23, of Chariton, on a Wayne County warrant for second degree theft. The charge was in connection with the burning of a vehicle in Wright Township that had earlier been reported stolen in Monroe on Nov. 18. Prothero was transported to Corydon where he appeared before the magistrate the following day. He is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
