The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated a personal injury accident east of Lineville. A 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by Sylvia Fern Nickell, 18, of Lineville, was eastbound on Birch Road when it curved into 40th Street and the driver lost control. The vehicle then spun around and went off the west side of the road and rolled coming to rest on the driver’s side. A passenger, Makenzie Lynn Holt, 19, of Corydon, was trapped under the vehicle and was removed by fire fighters who lifted the car and pulled her out. Holt was transported by Wayne County Ambulance to the Wayne County Hospital where she was air lifted to a Des Moines hospital. Damage to Nickell’s car was estimated at $6,500. Assisting at the scene were the Lineville First Responders and Lineville Fire Department. Nickell was issued citations for .02 violation and failure to maintain control. Holt was issued citations for failure to wear a seat belt and possession of alcohol by a person between the ages of 18-20. Two other passengers, Britni Mae McCarty, 18, of Corydon, and Kristen Marie Kelly, 19, of COrydon, were issued citations for possession of alcohol by persons between the ages of 18-20.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated a personal injury accident west of Corydon. A 2012 Ford Focus driven by Ellen Faye McMullen-Hickie, 72, of Allerton, was eastbound on Highway 2 when a deer ran into the roadway and was struck. The impact threw the deer into a 2009 Hyundai Accent driven by WIllard A. Cundiff, Sr., 64, of Georgetown, Ill. The deer landed in Cundiff’s vehicle injuring the driver and a passenger, Joyce A. Cundiff. Both were transported by Wayne County Ambulance to the Wayne County Hospital. Damage to McMullen-Hickie’s car was estimated at $5,000 and to Cundiff’s at $10,000.
