Nov. 8

6:27 p.m. Joann Martha Garr, 67, of Centerville, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander northbound in the 12000 block of Highway 5 when it struck a deer. Damage to Garr’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

Nov. 15

7:30 p.m. Jerry Duane Elston, 68, of Centerville, was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus eastbound in the 14000 block of Highway J46 when it struck a deer. Damage to Elston’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

Nov. 16

6:56 p.m. Frances Dean Deevers, 61, of Mystic, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on Highway J5T when the vehicle struck two deer. Damage was estimated at $4,500.

7:45 p.m. Shakira Marie Sias, 25, of Centerville, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound in the 19000 block of Highway J18 when her vehicle struck a deer. Damage to Sias’ vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

Nov. 17

12:17 a.m. Stephanie Nicole Grenko, 17, of Centerville, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus eastbound on Highway J18 when a deer ran onto the road and was struck. Damage to Grenko’s vehicle was estimated at $3,500.

Nov. 18

6:15 p.m. Billy Arthur Castillo, 36, of Centerville, was charged at the Law Center with first degree harassment.

Nov. 23

5:19 p.m. John Michael Aiello, 49, of Centerville, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo west bound in the 22000 block of Highway J29 when a deer entered the roadway striking the front side of the vehicle. Damage to Aiello’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

Nov. 28

2:29 a.m. Devin George Thul, 25, of Algona, was charged in the 14000 block of Highway J46 with driving while carried and OWI, second offense. He later posted bond and was released.

Nov. 29

11:43 p.m. Aaron Kyle Mitteness, 34, of Russell, 34, of Russell, was charged in the 24000 block of Highway 5 with OWI, first offense. He was later released on his own recognizance.

Dec. 1

2:25 p.m. Charles Denver, Drake, 20, of Centerville, was charged at the Law Center with willful injury. He later posted bond and was released.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
