Howdy folks! It’s been a long time since we have done the news due to health problems with the key players who get the information and write the article. We are back and plan on having an article at least twice a month or more if we have a lot of information. Please let us know about any groups meeting, visits or general interest to the community. I have also been sent a few things for the surrounding small towns and I might occasionally throw a little something in for them. You can e-mail it to email@example.com, drop off a note at the Exline Store or call me at (641) 895-4022.
Well I have to say that this weather has been the worst I have seen since we moved here nine years ago. I grew up in Colorado and was used to the snow but this is a deeper cold and the windchill is just ridiculous. I was told that the windchill lately have set records. Hopefully we can keep away from those temps for a while.
Well instead of a recipe I thought I would talk about some of my recent cooking attempts. All I can say is, needs improvement. I made bread rolls from scratch, no shortcuts and a great recipe that was to take one hour total start to finish. I pride myself on being a good cook so the results of anything I make are heartfelt. The recipe was followed to the letter yet they didn’t come out quite right and they were all different sizes and shapes even though I swear I divided them up right and used the same technique on each of them. The were pale on top and dark on bottom, some were light and airy while others were doughy. I blamed it on the weather of course it was too cold for them to rise correctly. Doug said they were great. He knows better! The next batch should be better. I did also make homemade handcut and rolled noodles for soup. The recipe was straight out of the Exline cookbook and they were absolutely wonderful. I encourage everyone to have a copy of each edition of the books because there are lots of tried and true recipes that have gone down through the generations.
