Hi everyone! Boy I have to just say that it is so nice when we have out of town visitors in the area and they are just in love with our little town! It’s great to have compliments about how tidy it is and that everybody waves at them as they drive past. This is so funny because most of us just do it automatically even if we don’t know who we’re waving at.
I saw my first Monarch butterfly today and a swarm of dragon flies as well. Does this mean fall? I don’t pretend to know any of the old timers signs for seasons changing but this is always a hint for me.
This week’s recipe is for Apple Spice Pancakes.
2 c. of white flour
2 c. of wheat flour
5 tsp. baking powder
4 tsp. sugar
3 tsp. apple pie spice
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. of milk
1 can of apple pie filling finely chopped
Mix all dry ingredients well, then add vanilla and milk. Mix in apple pie filling. Cook on a griddle until done and enjoy with warm maple syrup.
Now that we’re starting to harvest somethings from the garden (and NO I don’t want any zucchini!) there seems to be fruit flies everywhere! My tip is simple — put some apple cider vinegar in small dish and set near where they are most prolific and you might need one or two more depending on how bad it is. Then just change often until gone.
We have a few changes around here. My brother, Chris, has moved to the area and my mother, Karen, moved to Ponds and Prairies. Peg Warner, from Coal Miner Commons, moved to Connecticut to stay with her children and we’re sorry to see her go. Dorothy Haines and Eloise Mathes are both under the weather, so please wish them well.
