CENTERVILLE — I guess the old saying March has come in like a lion would be appropriate? Mother Nature has really put the hurts on us. I’m just tired of having to reschedule my 2013 trip meeting.  I hope for good weather on March 21, because that is when it is now scheduled. We will meet at 3:30 p.m. to go over the one-day, overnight and the two- to four-day trips. Our fall trip to Alaska will also be available for sign-up on this day.

Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. we will have bingo before lunch. The menu for the day will be hot turkey sandwich with potatoes and gravy, spinach and applesauce. Fish will be offered the entire month on Fridays. If you are interested in fish you must let us know prior to the day.

Sunday morning don’t forget to set your clocks ahead an hour for daylight savings time.

Monday, March 11 we will have college students from ISU here to discuss the upcoming planting of our raised beds. SIEDA with the efforts of the BOB boys have built two large raised beds that we will share with the seniors for some awesome fresh herbs and vegetables.

Tuesday, March 12 will be the Wii Bowling Tournament. Rounds start at 10 a.m. and run until 11:30 a.m. After lunch the winners of each heat play off. The menu for the day is roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, scalloped corn, cinnamon apples and hot rolls.

Wednesday, March 13 the Appanoose County Public Health nurses will be taking blood pressures. If you need a new book to record your readings,  we will be more than happy to get you one. The nurses will be here from 10:45-11:15 a.m. Our chicken dinner will follow.

Thursday, March 14 will be our Chef Charles Program. Pat with Iowa State University Extension along with students from ISU will present the program from 10:45-11:30 a.m. Our focus this month will be healthy snacks and exercise. The students will be leading some fun stretching exercises to get the blood pumping. If you are interested in the program be here by 10:45 a.m.

Friday, March 15 we will have our St. Patrick’s Day party. With March 17 falling on a Sunday this year we will start the weekend off early. We will have bingo prior to the meal with many of the bingo items being green.

Tuesday, March 19 is the beginning of “A Matter of Balance.” This class will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from March 19 until April 11.

During this class you will learn how to:

•View falls as controllable

•Set goals for increasing activities

•Make changes to reduce fall risks at home

•Exercise to increase strength and balance

Those who should attend are anyone concerned about falls, anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength, anyone who has fallen in the past and anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns

If this program sounds like something you need, call or come in and get signed up. We can only take 12 people per class. Kathy Miller from Chariton and I will be teaching the classes. To register or for more information call (641) 856-8627.

Wednesday, March 20 we will have our Caregivers program at 11:15 a.m. before the chicken dinner at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, March 21 we will have our 2013 trip meeting at 3:30 p.m. followed by our evening co-op and bingo birthday party at 5 p.m. If you are coming to the meeting and plan to stay for bingo and the co-op, bring your covered dishes to place in the refrigerator or oven. Make sure to bring your table service also.

Tuesday, March 26 will be the second Wii Bowling tournament for March. If you want to play, call to sign up.

Friday, March 29 will be our Easter dinner. Come early and take part in the fun games at 11 a.m. We are planning an old fashioned egg roll. This should be lots of fun. Our exercise for the day will be in many good belly laughs. The menu will be roast pork with gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, scalloped cabbage, and whole wheat hot rolls and fruit pie.
