The 60 and over Homecoming banquet was held Oct. 5 at the Continental Hotel on the Square, bringing together Centerville High School graduates from the classes of 1937 to 1954, although there weren’t any classmates from 1938 or 1939 present.
Eleven states were represented, with people attending from Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, California and Washington. This was the fifth time the reunion has been held and 109 reservations were taken.
Several people spoke from their seats representing the classes of 1937, 1941, 1942 and 1943. Others spoke at the microphone for their classes including, Paul Waggoner 1941, Mary Jane Douglas 1945, Wayne Waggoner 1948, Carl Condra 1949, Dean Green 1950, Clifford Rushton 1951, Lavern Fry 1953 and Kathy Erickson 1954.
Erickson was also introduced as the new chairman for the 2014 banquet, taking over from Elahvonne Wright and the class of 1946, who have organized the previous five banquets. The attendees also acknowledged the food and service provided by the Continental Hotel each year for the banquet.
