CENTERVILLE LEGION POST 214, meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Continental at St. Joseph’s in the meeting room to the right of the V.A. office.

APPANOOSE COUNTY WEEKLY MEALS, Everyone is invited to enjoy a free meal and fellowship every Monday at Faith United Methodist Church on Highway 5 north of John Deere. Meals are available from 5-6 p.m. Rides are not being provided at this time. The menu for today will be pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, chips, pasta salad, relish tray, pumpkin and caramel bars with milk, lemonade, water, coffee or tea to drink. Faith United Methodist Church will host this meal.

TUESDAY 20

DAVIS COUNTY FARMER’S MARKET, will be held from 3-6 p.m. on the Davis County Courthouse lawn in Bloomfield.

BOB GROUP, meets at Centerville City Hall at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

JOIN NEST, a parent education class for expecting parents or parents with children up to 5 years old. Any parents can attend by filling out an enrollment packet. The new class schedule that began Aug. 6 is Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Thursdays at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Extension Office, 501 N. 12th St. in Centerville.

TAKING OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY, “TOPS,” meets Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Weigh-in begins at 6 p.m. and meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.

AMERICAN LEGION 280, in Moulton, will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Legion Hall.

TOUCHING OUR GRIEF, an ongoing educational grief and support group though HCI Care Service, meets the third Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the office HCI Care Services, 103 E. HONEY CREEK, 4–4:30 p.m. – Discovery Hike: Invertebrate Bingo – Can you find a spider web? Where is the best place to look for a plant gall? Join a naturalist on this half-hour hike to get an invertebrate bingo! Meet at the Activities Building. Great for all ages.

WEDNESDAY 21

CENTERVILLE FARMER’S MARKET, will be held every Wednesday through October on the north side of the Centerville Square from 3:30-6:30 p.m. with a large variety of vegetables, baked goods, crafts, woodworking, eggs and more. The Centerville Farmers Market will be hosting SIEDA Community Action’s MIECHV unit on the third Wednesday of every month. A family centered home visitation program, will be providing activities for children of all ages at the Farmers Market. Making their own books and bubble fun are just some of the activities planned for the Farmers Market.

HONEY CREEK, 10–11 a.m. – Kayaking 101 – Now is the perfect time to learn to kayak for free. During this one hour program participants will get hands-on experience shuttling their kayaks, getting in and out and paddling on the lake. Meet the kayaking beach located just north of the boat docks. Solo kayaks and paddles will be provided. Some PFDs are available but participants may bring their own. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet. This class is for people 12 years and older. Minors must have a guardian present and participating. Participants must feel comfortable in the water. Space is limited. Email Hannah Wiltamuth at hannahw@honeycreekresort.com to reserve a spot.

11a.m.–12 p.m. – Family Kayaking – This special program is designed for children under the age of 12 with a participating guardian. Together, the child and guardian will learn basics of kayaking on dry land. When it comes time to launch, the guardian will wade into the water and hold the boat for the child then allow them to demonstrate their paddling techniques. Meet at the kayaking beach located just north of the boat docks. Kayaks and paddles will be provided. Some PFDs are available but participants may bring their own. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet. This class is for people under 12 years old with a guardian. Participants must feel comfortable in the water. Space is limited. 1–1:30 p.m. – Sidewalk Chalk – Join us in the Activities Building to make your own stick of sidewalk chalk to take home.

3:30–4 p.m. – Activities Building Tour – Meet on the Activities Building deck to tour Honey Creek Resort’s newest facility and learn how it utilizes existing technologies to be a leader in green living.

6–6:30 p.m. – Nature’s Toy Box – Join an interpreter in the lodge lobby to investigate the toys nature provides for us. Participants must bring their imagination and be prepared for fun. Meet in the lodge lobby. Great for all ages.

HONEY CREEK, 9–11 a.m. – Kayaking Tour – Get closer to nature during this two- hour kayaking tour with a naturalist. This program is perfect for people with some kayaking experience. Meet at the kayaking beach located just north of the boat docks. Participants must have prior kayaking experience and feel confident in their abilities to shuttle, launch and maneuver their kayak. Kayaks and paddles will be provided. Some PFDs are available but participants may bring their own. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet. For people 12 years and older. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Participants must feel comfortable in the water. Space is limited. Email Hannah Wiltamuth at hannahw@honeycreekresort.com to reserve a spot.

1–1:30 p.m. – Moon Sand – Visit the Activities Building and make your own moon sand to take home.

5–5:30 p.m. – Insect Hike – Grab your bug nets and join a naturalist for this one-hour hike to learn about the insects of Honey Creek. Meet at the Activities Building. Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to go off trail. Great for all ages.

A FREE-WILL DONATION POT LUCK DINNER FOR BRYAN MCCLURG, who was recently diagnosed with cancer that has spread to his bones, will be hosted by he Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 2675. ALL donations will go directly to Bryan to help him with medical expenses. The dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Eagles, 1101 S. 18th St., in Centerville. MEMORY MINDERS/ ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION, holds a support group on the third Friday of each month at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville at 9 a.m. Facilitator is Sherrie Doggett who can be contacted at (641) 437-4111.

WAPELLO COUNTY FARMER’S MARKET, is now open every Friday from 2-6 p.m. at Family Video on Albia Road in Ottumwa until late October as long as the weather permits. This is a certified market to accept WIC SFMNP and CVVs.

7–7:30 p.m. – Nature Tales – Join a naturalist around the Activities Building fire ring to enjoy s’mores and hear a story about nature. If weather is not suitable for being outside we will read a story by the lobby fireplace.

9-10 p.m. – Stargazing – View constellations and delve into the myths and legends of the night sky. Meet on the deck of the Activities Building. Great for all ages.
