MOULTON — Freda (Jones) Teater and her daughter, Shawna Teater, recently stopped to visit with an old friend of Freda’s. The Maple tree Freda planted on her parent’s property when she was nine years old.

Freda, daughter of Ruth and Junior Jones, was born and raised in Moulton. According to Shawna, one day Freda found two Maple saplings while out walking and told her father about them. They then planted them about 20 feet apart on their property and the trees have contiued to grow there for 67 years.

Although the Jones family home is gone and someone else owns the property, Shawna said for years she wanted a picture of her mother by her tree and in June of this year, the duo stopped to snap a photo.

Freda was worried they would get busted, and they did, meeting the new property owner and sharing the story of the tree’s origins.

But they also got the picture that Shawna wanted and she says it now sits in a frame at her home.

The trees are located near Daniels Service Station in Moulton on the right side of the road.
