Happy May Day to all! As a child I vividly recall the fun times in making flower baskets out of old magazines or wall paper and filling them with lilacs or dandelions, just about anything that grew free. We then would take them to neighbors and family to share the beauty. We knew that along with this tradition, spring had sprung and we looked forward to warm summer days.
During the month of May the Area Agency on Aging is offering a “Matter of Balance” class. Anyone that has experienced concerns about falling and restricting their activities is invited to join us. You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activities, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and learn light exercises to increase strength and balance. The classes will be held from 9-11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday starting on Tuesday, May 6. The classes will be held at the 18-80 Club located at 922 E. State St. If you have any questions feel free to call (641) 856-8627.
Tuesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 8 will be our classes.
Monday, May 5 will be the first day to sign-up for a one-day trip to Lakeside in Osceola which will be on May 30. This trip will cost $25 per person and include lunch buffet and $10 loaded on your player’s card. The motor coach will leave the club at 9 a.m. and return back to town by 5 p.m. Only 54 will get to go, so make sure you sign up early to reserve your seat.
Friday, May 9 we will have our Mother’s Day celebration. We will be playing bingo at 11 a.m. just prior to the noon meal. Our menu is pork cutlet, mashed potatoes with gravy, tomato spoon salad, mandarin oranges and banana pudding. Make sure you are calling in the day ahead for reservations. Many wait until the last minute on the day of big parties and then we find it hard to have enough items purchased. We do all wish our mothers a very wonderful relaxing Mother’s Day!
