---- — Exline newsHi folks. This weeks article is going to be mainly about the Exline Fourth of July celebration. We in Exline get the honor of hosting the best 4th of July in Appanoose County in my opinion. When we first moved here eight years ago I couldn't believe that this tiny little town hosted the local area fireworks. We made it just a few days after the 4th so we had a whole year to wait to see the fun and hilarity of it all. Well we weren't disappointed and have tried to be a big part of this celebration ever since. Well to make a long story short, I began working for the Exline Store and I sure knew what goes into this celebration every year! We've had hot years, cold years, rainy years and a whole host of other years. The people around donate much time and energy to make this happen and I want to give a shout out to Penny Sharp and all the employees of the store for making a lot of it happen every year. There are a lot of people that help out including families and friends too. The recreation committee and all of it's volunteers and generally the whole town. A thank you also goes out to Morgan Cline for chipping in to make this happen as well.So lets get the information flowing - All these events happen on the 4th.Beginning at 6:45 a.m. is the flag raising. At 7 a.m. is “By Dawns Early Light” first annual 5K run/walk. You must preregister by July 1 at the store. The fee is $20 for adults and $15 for ages 12 and under. The winners will be announced at 10 a.m. when trophies and ribbons are awarded for each category. The Cutie Contest starts at 10:30 a.m. it is sponsored by the Exline 4H Ramblers and all contestants must register by 10 a.m.The pie contest starts at 12 p.m. at the community center (all pies must be at the center by 11:30 a.m.). There are two categories, single crust and double crust. They must be in disposable pans. Grand prize is $100.Reserve prize is $50. First in each category is $25, second is $15. Make sure you plan to do this. The pies are awesome and it's great when there are leftovers you can buy.The Cake Walk begins right after the pie contest around 1 p.m. and this is just a lot of fun for children and adults alike. Who doesn't want a cake for a buck? Donations of cakes is always need so please contact Maryann Hurley for details on this.At 12 p.m. the Motorcycle Poker run gets underway.
