Here we are in another new year. I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday that ends one year and begins another.
That was unbelievable that we had a temperature in the 50s on New Year’s Eve Day. That was really nice at this time of the year.
Did you know it snowed for a while early on New Year’s morning around 1 a.m.? It was like a blizzard outside. There must have been about three inches of snow on the ground with the wind blowing the snow sideways. It made driving very difficult late that night.
It looked like we were in for quite a snow storm during the time the snow was rapidly falling and the wind was really blowing. Then on Sunday morning, there was not a speck of snow to be found anywhere. That was strange.
If a person went to bed early and woke up the next morning, they never knew for a time during the night that there was a snow storm that occurred. I have talked to a few people who also saw the snow that morning.
For this time of year in January, the weather is still not too bad though.
The recipe for this week is one we had on New Year’s Eve. Denise and I went to my cousin Karen and her husband Rodger Maletta’s house in Centerville to play cards for the evening to ring in the New Year. Karen is a good cook and a lot of recipes that appear in this column are the ones she has tried. So, she is kind of the test kitchen for a lot of recipes that appear each week. She served us these unique cookie bars during the evening on New Year’s Eve.
Yum Yum Bars
2 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. quick oatmeal
2 1/2 c. flour
