Jean Leach, of Exline, was selected as the second runner-up for the Royal Neighbors of America 2013 Fraternalist of the Year Award.
The national office of Royal Neighbors of America selects the winners of these awards based on examples of fraternalism in action. Leach’s selection was based upon her active participation in several organizations and activities including serving as the president of Royal Neighbors Chapter 3000 of Exline for the past two years. She was named Exline Citizen of the Year for 2012. As president of the Exline Betterment Committee, she is a volunteer grant writer for Exline and has been responsible for securing several grants for improvements to her community. With these grants Exline has been able to equip their Community Center with new siding, windows, generator, heat pump and roofing. The latest grant will enable the town to build a gazebo/shelter house in their city park. Leach is also a member of PEO, Friends of the Drake Public Library and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She is president elect of the auxiliary and served as treasurer in 2011 and 2012.
As second runner-up for the fraternalist award, Leach was presented with a $250 award from the national organization of Royal Neighbors. She donated this award to a new project in Exline sponsored by the Exline Royal Neighbors of placing an American flag and memorial in the Exline Cemetery. The other three winners of the Royal Neighbors fraternalist awards were from Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.
