Hi folks. We have been kinda of waiting and seeing how often we are going to do the article. We have had a slow month or so. What I would really love is some of you to just e-mail me at email@example.com or call me at (641) 895-4022 or put a little note in our box at the Exline Store. It doesn’t have to be something big. It can be a birthday, anniversary, visit from friends and family or even a request for people to see if they might need anything you’re giving away or if you’re looking for some help on a project. This area has the most wonderful caring people and I just would love to make this our own special article that is for everyone here.
Recipe of the week
Ham and Beans
One bag of your choice of beans; navy, northern, mixed, any one will do. Soak them overnight in water, drain and put in crock-pot.
1 onion diced
1 c. finely diced carrot
1 large ham hock whole
1 bay leaf
Pinch of pepper
Do not add salt yet. It makes the beans tough and the ham hock adds some salt.
Cover with water so everything is under water. Cook on low eight hours or so. Add a little water if it becomes to dry. Remove ham hock and debone, shred meat and put back in pot. If to thin mash a cup or so of beans and return to pot.
I always serve this with fresh baked corn bread and some form of greens.
Okay, the news now —
Don’t miss the Royal Neighbors Halloween bash. It’s at the Exline Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Everyone come join us for games and treats, in costume of course. The wicked witch of the south will be there to greet you. Go fishing, enjoy the duck pond, spin the prize wheel, throw beanbags at the jack-o-lantern, shoot the buck and finally trick or treat station. There will be prizes and treats for all. Don’t forget to grab your friends and head on down.
