---- — Maddie Kirkland is Talent On Parade’s 2013 High Point National Champion. She competed two solos in TOP’s National Finals in Overland Park, Kansas this past June. Both solos received Double Diamond Elite TOP 1sts, the highest adjudicated award. Maddie was the only soloist in the 8 & Younger Solo Division to receive two Double Diamonds, which led her to be named the High Point National Champion.
The top five highest scoring solos were selected to re-compete in the elite Parade of Champions. Maddie performed her jazz solo “Cover Girl” and was awarded 1st Overall in the 7-8 Competitive Level Solo Division. She also received 8th Overall in the TOP Entertainer Division and won a Category Cup for being the highest scoring lyrical solo.
“Dancing in the Parade of Champs I felt happy, excited, nervous, but ready for it. And when I won I was so excited that all of my hard work had paid off. I love to perform my jazz solo because I get to be fierce and play a character,” said Kirkland.
Maddie is the daughter of Travis and Heather Kirkland of Centerville. She trains in all styles of dance and tumbling at Centerville Dance X-pressions. Maddie will be competing her lyrical solo in the Bill Riley State Talent Show on Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fair.
