Well what a tease we had Tuesday night! Just enough rain to make it muggy, and I’m building a fence this week.
There was a birthday party for Bernice Craver on July 31 at the Community Center, and more than 25 relatives attended. Penny Sharp catered the food and Judy Smith made the cake. Happy 90th birthday Bernice!
The rummage sale last week was a great success. Many thanks to all who volunteered and donated.
The Campbell family had a reunion last Saturday at the Community Center, and more than 40 people attended. Some came from as far away as Arkansas!
Mary Ann Hurley will be traveling to Boonville, Mo. this weekend to attend her grandson Ethan’s baptism. We hope she stays safe on the road.
The City Council met on the evening of Aug. 6 and here’s a rundown of the discussion. The Council approved the minutes from last month and had a lengthy discussion about cleaning up a vacant property here in town. There are vehicles and a propane tank to be removed and some out buildings to be torn down. The property is overgrown and needs dozer work done, also a foundation from a home that had burned down. There was discussion about how to notify the property owner, obtain an abandoned vehicle title for the truck that needs to be removed, and Mike Leach (a contractor) gave the Council some preliminary ideas on what he would charge for the dozer work. The Council voted to contact the city’s attorney for advice on how baest to proceed. The Council approved the financial report and voted to roll over a CD that ‘s maturing at the bank. The financial report on the streets fund was approved to be submitted to the state DOT. There was discussion on the placement of a grave at the cemetery. The Council also approved scheduling a public hearing on the city’s annual financial report for next month’s meeting.
