Appanoose County NEST offering new class times

The Daily Iowegian

---- — The Appanoose County NEST program will now be offering more class times to the parents and families of Appanoose County beginning Aug. 6. The new class schedule will be as follows:

Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Thursdays at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The NEST program is available to all families with children prenatal to age 5. It is an incentive based parent education program. Parents can earn points for their weekly attendance to class as well as by making healthy choices for their child. This includes early prenatal care, well-child check-ups, and other parenting based programs the family is enrolled in. The points can be spent on essentials for your child (diapers, wipes, bottles, shampoo, etc.). The class topics cover a range of parenting issues including: prenatal care, child development, positive discipline and guidance, safety, nurturing parenting, nutrition, stress management and many others.

The NEST program believes that every child, beginning at birth, will be healthy and successful and reach their full potential. The NEST also believes that prenatal care and early childhood education are the most important factors in ensuring healthy children and families. There are approximately 2,000 days between birth and the first day of kindergarten. The first 2,000 days of a child’s life can have a profound and lifelong impact on physical and emotional wellbeing, readiness to learn and succeed, and ability to become a productive citizen. The NEST can help you identify ways to have the most positive impact on your child’s life during this crucial time.

Appanoose County NEST is funded by 4 Counties for Kids Early Childhood Iowa and Prevent Child Abuse Iowa.
