---- — First thing, the story about the 1951 girls’ basketball team was well received. I thank all of you for calling or visiting with me about it. I have an omission. The cheerleaders who were wonderful with their support. Roberta Benz, Twyla Foster, Waunita Perry, Betty Vance and Doris Fisher. Junior cheerleaders were Rita Gardner, Sandra Oard and LaVonne Oard. Thanks to Wanda Brown for the tip and the list.

It was 1992 and a spirit of rebirth ran rampant in Moravia. The inauguration of the Moravia Task Force symbolized a new dedication to the values and principles that led to the initial establishment and success of the city of Moravia.

Task Force members represented Moravian organizations, businesses, the school district and individuals sharing their time and talents in an effort to promote economic stability while strengthening Moravia’s rich heritage of community, family and friendship.

It is with a deep sense of appreciation for our past that Moravia continues to move forward in the 21st century, eager to meet new challenges, confident in our ability to shape a positive future.

In the first year, projects completed included a successful Trees Forever grant, which still continues, including trees added to private dwellings, the school district and our own city parks, with citizen contributions. The city-wide garage sales, an area-wide craft show, a three-day fourth of July celebration and an updated history book.

Some have been continued, such as the city-wide garage sale, held twice yearly for two days. The next one is scheduled for May 2-3. The fall one is scheduled for Sept. 5-6.

This year on May 2-3 the new Methodist Hall will offer to anyone a table for $3 and $2 for publicity. We think there might be some who would like to be inside with the air conditioning or heat and handy bathrooms. This would be for those who may have a smaller amount of garage sale times.

They will also offer sandwich lunches. Call (641) 895-3592 for details. We will also have the list of all the other yard sale addresses and maps.
