---- — Respite Care Services annual Secretary’s Day Luncheon will be held Wednesday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Drake Avenue Christian Church.
The Knights of Columbus men will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs. Area churches will be donating homemade salads, sides, and desserts. Tickets are $7 and are available at the Chamber of Commerce, or by calling (641) 437-3474. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Many businesses overwhelmingly support Respite Care and traditionally buy tickets for the luncheon for their employees and themselves. Businesses also donate door prizes to be given away during the luncheon. This is an opportunity to help a very needed program in Appanoose County.
Respite Care started in 1991. The program provides a volunteer to residents of Appanoose County who are caretakers of people in their home. The caretaker gets a much needed break to run errands, shop, get a haircut or visit a friend. The friendly visitor is also a volunteer who visits in the homes of the elderly. They visit people who are still living independently but are often homebound and lonely. Often they have no family nearby.
Respite Care is based in the offices of Appanoose Community Care Services. For more information on these programs, to become a volunteer, to request services or to find out more about the upcoming luncheon, call Debbie at (641) 437-3474.
