The Dining Room by A. R. Gurney will open Friday, March 14 for a six performance run at the historic Majestic Theater.
This is the opening production of the 2014 season of Off the Square Theatre Company.
The play is set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembles daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions.
The action is comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes - some funny, some touching some rueful - which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle class WASP.
The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers and from giggling teenage girls to a proud aunt or a senile mother.
Featured in this production will be Lynette Watts, Tiffany Dillard, Amber Hoffman, Jay Dillard, Robert Nardy and Richard Talbot.
The Dining Room will run March 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 7 p.m.
Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. All performances will be at the Majestic Theater at 100 N. 13th St. in Centerville, Iowa 52544.
Tickets will be available at the door one hour prior to performance
Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. Only cash or checks can be accepted at this time.
The production is directed by Richard Talbot with Keith Hayes as assistant director.
