---- — The only ensemble of its kind to ever win first prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the New Century Saxophone Quartet is a pioneering and versatile group. Bringing new found enthusiasm for the sax quartet and its diverse repertory, their program danes from the Baroque and other classical works to interesting contemporary works, jazz and pops.
This exciting enthusiastic group will appear in Centerville on Saturday, March 15 at Simon Estes Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. under the auspices of the Centerville Concert Association.
Recipient of grants from the National Endowment of the Arts, The Aaron Copeland Recording Fund, Chamber Music America and the North Carolina Arts Council, New Century has been heard in major concert venues in LA, NYC and Amsterdam; on radio and television in the US, Europe and Central America; and in unusual concert settings, ranging from command performances for President Clinton, himself a saxophonist, in the White House to a concerto performance with the US Navy Band; and also featured twice on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today.”
Quartet members include Michael Stephenson on soprano sax, Christ Hemingway on alto, Stephen Pollock on tenor and Drew Hays on baritone.
This is the third concert of the 2013-2014 series with admission by season memberships from Centerville, Ottumwa, Fairfield and Washington or $15 at the door. Take the opportunity to see and hear this outstanding instrumental ensemble live in the Centerville auditorium.
