Chapter officers visit

On Sunday, Feb. 16 FFA members Ashley Salstrand, Arianna Litke, Trey McCoy, Makayla Bauer, Hunter Moore and Derrick Wray set up a display in Orschelns to talk to people about FFA.

On Tuesday, the chapter officers met up with one of the state officers, James Leonard for supper. The officers’ talked about what FFA events they do during the year and asked Leonard about his FFA career while eating at the Continental. On Wednesday, the chapter officers wore their officer polos and khaki pants and the members wore FFA T-shirts. The FFA members served breakfast to the teachers. Leonard was also in the ag room all day to do leadership and team building activities with Miss Gaskins classes. Thursday and Friday the students wore flannel and camo to round out the FFA week activities.

On Feb. 24, 11 Centerville FFA members attended the FFA sub-district contest in Bussey at Twin Cedars High School. The members competed in different contests and they received different awards. Branson Bachman competed in the Public Speaking contest and received a bronze. Hunter Moore, Trey McCoy, Arianna Litke and Kirsten Brauman competed in chapter quiz and they received a gold advance so they they will be moving on to districts in Chariton on March 8. Kirsten Brauman also competed in Job Interview contest and received a silver. Kolton Devore received a gold and Dugan Oden received a silver competing in welding. Bailee Cox competed in Creed Speaking and received a gold. Bailee Cox also competed in Greenhand Quiz along with Malinda Rupalo, Jake Hengstenberg and Danielle Shondel. They received a silver.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
