CENTERVILLE — December is upon us with all the holiday cheer. Lots of fun activities to do for the seniors so with the nice weather enjoy. All the member of the 18-80 Club wishes you and yours a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful place to gather and enjoy each other thanks to a lot of devoted supporters.  Thank you all for remembering us and allowing us to have a nice safe warm place to enjoy our senior years.

Tuesday, Dec. 4 was the Wii Bowling tournament and the winner for the first one of the month went to Bernard Pugh with the high score of 279. Bernard had all strikes but one frame with a spare. So close, but yet so far away from a perfect score.

Wednesday, Dec. 12 we will have the Appanoose County public health nurses in taking blood pressures from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. We will also have our Caregivers Program on “Does Medicare Pay for Flu Shots?” Our chicken dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Dec. 13 we will have our December birthday party with co-op and bingo at 5 p.m. Bring your favorite Christmas dish and table service and enjoy the cooking of the holidays from various family traditions.

Saturday, Dec. 15 we will have our Christmas party. I have planned this for the afternoon/evening in the event the weather is not in our favor. I felt it would be better driving in the day time than late at night. We will all gather at 3 p.m. for snacks and bingo (all gift items) then follow it up with the 5 p.m. meal which will all be fixed at the site. The menu for the evening will be BBQ ribs, fried chicken, ham, pasta bake, mashed potatoes with gravy, green bean casserole, salad, cracked wheat hot rolls and fruit pie with ice cream. We will ask that you give a donation for the day’s activities and it will then be given and used for the windows that have been ordered. If you have any questions feel free to call.

Tuesday, Dec. 18 we will have the second Wii bowling tournament for the month. After this month we will start over again and all will be able to win the over-all prizes again.

Wednesday, Dec. 19 we will have our Chef Charles Program. Pat will be here to start the program at 11 a.m. so come early if you want to be part of the program.

Friday, Dec. 21 we will be having our Christmas party at lunch time starting at 11 a.m. We will have various Christmas games and prizes to win. The meal will start at 11:30 a.m. with the menu being roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, spinach with vinegar, and pie with ice cream.

The site will be closed both Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25 for the holiday. If you need meal options please let us know by Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Wednesday, Dec. 26 will be the Caregivers Program “Long Distance Options for Caregiving.” This program will start at 11:15 a.m. just prior to the meal.

Friday, Dec. 28 we will have our New Year’s Party. All decked out with the party favors we will celebrate in style. Come have a sparkling punch toast with us and bring in 2013 early. The site will be closed for both Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

An update on the “Taste of Heritage Dinner and Auction” held on Saturday, Nov. 10. It was a huge success. The Betterment or Bust group raised just over $3,000 for the new windows. Way to go group. You really out did yourselves. Thank you, each and every one on that organization for everything. As we sit warm in the building this winter and enjoy the fresh air next spring we will remember you.

For those of you already getting cabin fever, I have told, or should I say promised that if the weather stays good like it is now I will allow some overnight Tama trips in January and or February. It will be on short notice, so check with us at your convenience. Even better come in and have dinner with us and find out what’s going on.

Around the middle of February we will be having a meeting to discuss all of the one-day, two-day and three- and five-day trips as well as our fall destination trip. Watch for an exact date in the January article. Our spring trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. has already been filled. If you are interested in being placed on a waiting list feel free to call.

Those of you looking for that hard to buy for senior parent, grandparent or neighbor, we sell meal tickets, bus tickets, one-day trip gift certificates, membership fees for 2013, just ask and we can help you. Menu’s and certificates are available upon request.
