---- — February is “Heart Month.” Not only for the Valentine’s Day part of it, but it is also American Heart Month. The American Heart Association asks that we review the following; maintain a healthy weight, abstain from smoking, exercise regularly, watch what you eat and get a health screening yearly.

Today we will have Bingo starting at 11 a.m. The meal will include; beef tips with gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli, mandarin oranges and banana pudding.

Tuesday, Feb. 11 Care Initiatives will host a Bingo also at 11 a.m. We appreciate them offering and remembering us. The dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m. which includes; hearty vegetable beef soup with crackers, fresh spinach and strawberry salad, homemade wheat dinner roll and apricots.

Wednesday, Feb. 12 the Appanoose County Public Health nurses will be in taking blood pressures. They are always so good about checking monthly to see our hearts are in good working order.

Thursday, Feb. 13 we will have our Valentine Dinner Dance. The meal will start at 5 p.m. and include; BBQ ribs, fried chicken or ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, copper penny salad, hot rolls and ice cream sundaes. If you have not signed up yet please do so ASAP. Ned Francis will be doing the music. He will start at 6 p.m. and play until 8:15 p.m.

Door prizes will be given to the lucky few whose name is drawn.

Friday, Feb. 14 we will have our Valentine Party at lunchtime. The party will start at 11 a.m. We will have interesting trivia about our favorite romantic TV stars. The lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. which includes; roast pork with dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed cabbage, banana orange cup and whoopee pie.

Monday, Feb. 17 is President’s Day and the meal-site will be closed. Those needing an extra meal on Friday, Feb. 14 let us know no later than Wednesday, Feb. 12. Friday will already be a larger day with the party and we will need to know how many to cook for.

Tuesday, Feb. 18 we will have our Wii golf tournament. We will have a beginner’s heat and an advanced heat. This will start at 10 a.m. for the beginners and the other heat will start around 10:45 a.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 19 we will have our monthly “Fresh Conversations” program. This month we will be talking about “Tips for Living on a Tight Budget.” Our chicken dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Feb. 20 we will have our evening birthday party with co-op. The meal will start at 5 p.m. followed by Bingo. Bring your favorite covered dish and your table service. Several seniors have birthdays in February so maybe we will fill the table this month?

Monday, Feb. 24 Nancy Klum will be in demonstrating how to make your own all occasion cards. The demonstration will start at 10:45 a.m. so plan to come early. Nancy has made some for our seniors already and they are really neat. I’m sure you will enjoy seeing the entire process. The program is free. All it will cost is a little of your time. We thank Nancy for taking the time out of her busy schedule to show us her talents.

Tuesday, Feb. 25 will be our Wii bowling tournament. Sign-up for the heat that you are interested in.

Wednesday, Feb. 26 the seniors will try to go to Meskwaki Casino for an overnight trip. The cost will be $50 per person and will include; motor coach transportation, lodging, $40 loaded on your players card and two $5 food vouchers. I have only six seats left on this trip. In the event the weather does not cooperate with us we may have to cancel. Call the club if you have any questions.

Those of you going on the spring trip to Washington D.C., remember the final payment is due on Saturday, Feb. 15. Watch the March article. We will be having a meeting next month.

We will also be having a meeting for the fall trip to Colorado and Arizona in March. The article next month will have the exact time and date of both.
