Tuesday, May 21 we will have our second Wii bowling tournament. The menu will be pork-lion, oven browned potatoes, cheesy broccoli, mixed green salad and banana orange gelatin.
Wednesday, May 22 prior to our chicken lunch we will have the Caregivers program at 11:15 a.m.
Friday, May 24 we will have bingo at 11 a.m. just prior to lunch. We will have turkey club sandwich, sweet potatoes, kale and fresh watermelon.
Monday, May 27 the site will be closed for the Memorial Day weekend. If you are in need of an extra meal on Friday to cover for Monday, let us know ahead.
Wednesday, May 29 at 11 a.m. we will have Lynnette Winn, RN with the Acute Rehabilitation Unit from Ottumwa Regional Health Center in giving us information on stroke awareness. May is National Stroke Awareness month. The goal of the annual campaign is to raise awareness about the full continuum of a stroke by managing stroke risk factors, better understanding stroke symptom recognition and response time. The chicken lunch will follow.
Activities for the month of June will include; a one day trip to Boone which includes the transportation, admission to the Des Moines Botanical Center, lunch at Colorado Grill and the train ride on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad. We will also enjoy admission to the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center. Before leaving town we will stop at the Dutch Oven Bakery. We will leave from the club at 7:30 a.m.
The other trip for June will be on Wednesday and Thursday, June 26-27 to Tama.
In addition to our special month we have been notified by Carlene Russell the nutrition director for the Iowa Department on Aging that the Centerville site has been selected as one of two in the whole state to film a documentary on the Chef Charles Program. This will be filmed Friday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We are not only honored but proud to know that the state, as well as Gail Smith, former Chef Charles, thinks that much of us. Gail is the daughter of Harold and Donna Dudley of Cincinnati. We look forward to showing the state the great group of seniors that support our local site. Set back this date in your little black books and plan to have lunch and participate in the program.
