National Active and Retired Federal Employees organization celebrates 45 years in Centerville and Albia
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 925, Albia and Centerville, will be celebrating its 45th anniversary.
It launched it’s charter on Nov. 19, 1964. The original was chartered as a chapter of it’s parent organization, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, since renamed to National Active and Retired Federal Employees. Original charter officers were: M. E. McLaughlin, president; Charles S. Agams, vice president; and Hugh J. Richey, secretary. Other charter members were: Rose Agams, W. S. Barnes, Leola Elder, Hatie Gaddis, Ruth Hohlingbed, Clarence Johnson, Gertrude Johnson, Mildred McLaughlin, Grace Mahlm, Letha M. Richey, Lacey O. Tucker, Nellie Tucker and Eura Willetts. Since 1976 the following have served as president: George E. Jackson, Jr, Bernard Janssen, Edmund Slack, Alvin Potts, Virginia Ryan, George Frye, John Botts, Alvin Potts, Kenneth Akins, Eleanor Sofranko, Donald Plum, Haley Scott and Ora Klingensmith. Current officers are: George Jackson, president; Bernard Janssen, vice president; and Marilyn Jackson, secretary/treasurer.
Membership is open to active federal employees and retired federal employees of the U.S. government and its agencies. Spouses, widows and widowers of the same are also eligible. The purpose of the association is to preserve and protect earned retirement benefits.
Congressional actions taken now will diminish or enhance future retirement benefits of active federal employees. Federal employees will want to take a serious look at joining this association because it is currently supporting legislation beneficial for their future retirements. At this time, one of NARFE’s major endeavors is to monitor and protect earned Federal Employees Health Benefits while Congress is forging ahead with a new comprehensive health care plan.
Annuitants and employees under FEHB can expect to be gravely affected by upcoming Congressional actions. NARFE keeps involved with Congressional activities which affect all Federal annuitants, as well as all senior citizens.
All federal employees and retirees, spouses and widows/widowers, are invited to attend this 45th anniversary of NARFE’s Chapter 925 on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. at Angel’s Small Mart in Moravia. For additional information, contact George Jackson, president, at (641) 726-3058 or (515) 494-5710.
