Friends of Drake Public Library
Friends of the Drake Public Library met Thursday, April 24, with 10 members present. President Colene Chebuhar conducted the business meeting and Shirley Turner read the minutes and gave the treasurer’s report.
Debbie Robinson reported on progress made in regards to the new sign for the library and showed pictures of a sculpture to be placed in the library gardens. The purchase of the sculpture was discussed and approved. Robinson will check into securing a message board for the library and she announced that planting will take place the week of May 5 with the Garden Club and Friends of the Library helping.
Plans were finalized for a bake sale to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Wal-Mart. Tom Lange will provide a tent and all members are encouraged to contribute baked goods. They may be brought to the library on Friday, May 9, before 3 p.m. for pricing.
Walt Downey is donating two afghans to be raffled at the bake sale. All proceeds will go to purchase cookbooks and craft and hobby books for the library.
Chebuhar showed samples of logos for the Friends of the Drake Public Library. It was agreed to pursue a logo. Chebuhar will secure a sample of “Books for Babies” as a possible service to new parents. It was decided not to sell 2009 Book Lovers’ Calendars available through FOLUSA, but to renew the membership. Chebuhar will continue to do a quarterly newsletter to be mailed to members. A garage sale in the fall was discussed.
The library director reported on the success of National Library Week and renovations continuing at the library. Children’s librarian Molly Williams thanks the Friends for funding the summer reading program which will benefit 200 children.
