Dear Editor,

The V.F.W. purchased the Burlington Railroad Depot building to have a home for meetings and to preserve the history of where railroad passenger service once was.

Centerville had the Burlington, Rock Island and the electric Interurban with its trolley cars.

The Burlington Depot is 100-years-old and in need of a new roof and tuck pointing.

Our number of members has declined to a point that is alarming for us as an organization.

We as the V.F.W. spearheaded the construction of the Veterans Memorial at Oakland Cemetery along with the Legion, Am Vets and with help of the community.

Money that was loaned to us by members to buy and repair the building was repaid through bingo, auctions and preparing meals.

Bill McDanel

Past V.F.W. Commander
