Deloris (Terry) Foster

EXLINE — Deloris (Terry) Foster, 94, a lifelong resident of Appanoose County, passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at The Continental at St. Joseph’s in Centerville. She was the daughter of the late Irmel and Maggie (Baughman) Terry.

Deloris was born on Jan. 20, 1919. She graduated from Exline High School with the class of 1936, after having been a member of the women’s basketball team, for which she played every position.

After graduating, she became a teacher and taught at Zoar, Wilson and Numa schools. On April 27, 1939, she married Delbert Foster, in Lancaster, Mo. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her sons, Gerald and Dennis, making visits to each of them, in later years, at their homes in Arizona and Massachusetts, respectively. Some of Deloris’s interest included reading, cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling, current events and most important, visiting with her friends and family. She treasured the time she spent with her sisters, Esther and June. Deloris was a regular visitor to and proponent of the Exline community, especially the Exline Old Country Store. In 2006, she was named the grand champion of the annual Exline pie-baking contest, for her submission of a chocolate pie. Deloris loved life and lived life to the fullest.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
