---- — Stephen F. “Steve” Shaw, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 18, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Centerville on July 19, 1947. He attended St. Mary’s School and Centerville High School.
After high school, he moved to Chicago, Ill. then to Des Moines where he learned carpet installation. In 1971 he moved to San Diego, Calif. where he worked as a carpet installer. He then got his floor covering contractor’s license and moved on to start his own business. He successfully owned and operated Shaw Fiber Clean, Inc. for more than 30 years, cleaning and repairing carpeting in San Diego County.
On Oct. 21, 1973 he married Carol Ann Wolfe of Worthington in San Diego, Calif. They lived most of their married life and raised their children in Tierrasanta, a community of San Diego. Steve was a long term member of Ascension Catholic Church. In addition to the love he had for his family and friends, Steve had a passion for golf, photography and fast cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary (Kopatic) Shaw; and his brother, Jack E. Shaw.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; and children, Christine (John) Schettler of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Jeffrey Shaw (Lindsey Demayo) of Los Angeles, Calif. Also surviving are his sisters, Mary D. Lane and Martha (Kenny) Rogerson; and his brothers, Jim and Dennis Shaw.
Steve’s funeral services were held at Ascension Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Aug. 21 with Father Anthony Saroki officiating. Interment was at El Camino Memorial Park with Father Luke Buckles presiding. After the services and burial, a celebration was held at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant at Steve’s request.
Life lessons that Steve taught included: Always be faithful to God, family and friends; Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability; Don’t take yourself too seriously. He is greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
