---- — Edison “Ed” Kozak, 85, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 in Long Term Care at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1928 in Yankton, S.D. the son of Joe and Alice (Sparks) Kozak. He was educated in the Yankton, S.D. School District. Ed and his family lived in Yankton until they moved to Centerville in 1965.
Ed was united in marriage to Edna E. Stickler in Yankton, S.D. After her death on July 4, 1996, he was united in marriage to Garnet Deahl on March 20, 1999 in West Des Moines. She died on Nov. 23, 2007. Ed farmed much of his life in South Dakota and worked at the state hospital in Yankton as a nurses aid. After he moved to Centerville he worked at the Box Factory, McGraw Edison and retired from Voltmaster in Corydon.
He is survived by his children, Jeanie Pontious, and her husband, Bob, of Centerville, Wayne Kozak, and his wife, Sally, of Des Moines, Debbie McDanel, and her husband, Randy, of Moravia, Tena Haughdahl, and her husband, Brad, of St. Peter, Minn. and Rita Marchand and her husband, Eugene, of Chesterfield, Va.; step-daughter, Judy Lunkley and her husband, Jim, and step-son, John Deahl his wife, Karla, of Unionville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Clara Bombas of Tyndall, S.D. and Patty Sudbeck of Wynot, Neb.
In death, Ed joins his parents, Joe and Alice; and a sister, Marie Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the Rev. Dr. Randy Ehrhardt officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held today from 1-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Medical Center “Long Term Care” or Mercy Hospice and left or mailed to the funeral home.
