Robert “Bob” Schultz, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, after a brave battle with cancer. Many of his family were able to visit and be by his side. He was born Oct. 31, 1927 in Oak Park, Ill. to August and Charlotte (Huebner) Schultz.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Osborn) Schultz; a sister, Charlene (Sal) Raimondi of Elmhurst, Ill.; three children, Cynthia Huster (Ronald) of Goshen, Ind., Donald (Carole) Schultz of Promise City and Michael Schultz of Promise City. He has eight grandchildren; Lauren, Jessica, Brett, William, Nathan, Melissa, Donnie (deceased) and Stephanie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandchild, Donnie Schultz.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and observed the nuclear testing of the fourth and fifth atomic hydrogen bomb detonations in the South Pacific, Bikini Islands. He worked for many years as an electrical engineer for Raytheon Corp. designing specialty x-ray machines. He and Dorothy retired in 1990 and moved from Elmhurst, Ill. to Centerville in 1992. He spent much of his free time golfing, fishing, hunting, visiting with family and friends and walking his and mom’s beloved chocolate lab, Rusty.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be all day today with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. Interment with full Military Rites will be in Confidence Cemetery.
