---- — James (Jim) C. Senior, 70, of Centerville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

He was born July 9, 1943 at Centerville, the son of John Campbell Senior and Margaret Fee Senior. Jim graduated from Centerville High School, Centerville Community College (Indian Hill CC), attended the University of Iowa and graduated from Northeast Missouri State (Truman State University), where he received his B.S. in Speech and Communication.

He married Dianne Webb on Sept. 4, 1966 at the First Methodist Church, Albia. Jim served his country in the National Guard. He started his career as an accountant for Union Carbide in Centerville and moved on to become the plant manager and company treasurer for the Levine Company. He spent five years as the executive director of the Centerville Chamber of Commerce. Later, he was the plant controller for Rubbermaid-Newell Co. in Centerville and then the corporate controller for Hawkeye Molding Co. in Albia. Jim was also the general manager for the Appanoose County Railroad. He received the Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award and in 1993, he was selected as the “Citizen of the Year” for Centerville. He was currently the mayor of Centerville, a job he was born for.

Jim was active and served on many boards and was a member of many groups including: Past president of Rotary, Centerville Airport Commission, Drake Public Library Board, Mercy Medical Center Advisory Board, former IOWA DOT rail advisor, past Industrial Committee Board, past Railroad Board, past AEDC Board member, member of the Institute of Manufacturing Accountants, Board of Directors for New Focus, Southern Prairie AEA Board, Centerville School Board member and president, board member of the Rathbun Lake Association, member of the BPO Elks Club, board member of the Centerville Animal Rescue League, the BOB group and First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder.

Jim is survived by his wife Dianne of Centerville, daughter Ann (Stacey) Senior-Blazek of Clutier, Iowa, four grandchildren, Tyler Jonathan (Britney) Senior of North Liberty, Nicholas Dylan (Amber) Senior of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, Breanna Lynnae (Steve) Senior of Williamsburg, Timothy Wyatt Blazek of Clutier; three great-grandchildren, Daisee Jean Senior, Ava Rose Senior of North Liberty, Lily Ann Senior of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; a sister Jane Bartik of San Pedro, Calif. and a brother Mike (Kathy) Senior of Columbus, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his son Tim, his parents, his in-laws Verne and Dessie Webb, brother-in-law William Bartik, and Travis O’Toole.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, Centerville with Pastor Suzanne Gorhau officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at the Lange Funeral Home & Crematory, Centerville. Interment of cremains will be in Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church and may be left or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home & Crematory, 1900 South 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
