---- — Mrs. Phyllis Virginia (Armstrong) Whitfield passed from this life Wednesday evening, Sept. 4, 2013, in Houston, Texas.

Born Sept. 27, 1936 in Mystic, Mrs. Whitfield had been a long time resident of Hitchcock, Texas. Phyllis had worked for Bayou Pines Care Center as a dietician and receptionist for more than 20 years and had formerly attended First Baptist Church of Hitchcock and Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She enjoyed puzzle books, crocheting, watching the evening news and Wheel of Fortune with her best friend “Nanny,” but most of all, loved her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Armstrong, II and Anna Laura (Couchman) Armstrong; husband, Clifford Edward “Whit” Whitfield; sister, Patricia Armstrong; brother, John Henry Armstrong, III; and brother-in-law, Robert Taylor.

Survivors include sons, Terry Lee Whitfield of Hitchcock, Texas, Donnie D. Whitfield and fiancée, Wendy Findley, of Van Vleck, Texas and John Henry Whitfield and wife, Brittany, of Santa Fe, Texas; daughters, Patsy Whitfield and Paula Jordan and husband, Randy, all of Hitchcock, Texas; brother, Willard Armstrong and wife, Barb, of Centerville; sisters, Maxine Hatfield of Centerville, Mary Taylor of Mystic and Wanda Armstrong of Grimes; grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Andrea Johnson, Chris Dame, Chris Whitfield, Heather Whitfield, Tyrell Jordan, Mikala Jordan, Cade Whitfield, Kace Whitfield Zack Findley, Sarah and Jono Grantham, Richard Lewis and Nick Lewis; great-grandson, Noah Grantham; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 13217 FM 1764, Santa Fe, Texas with the Rev. Danny Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at Hypolite-Perthuis Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Scott Fleming, Caleb Guidry, Roy Jeanson, Ty Jordan, Richard Lewis, Ryan Strickland, Wesly Vineyard and Chris Whitfield. Honorary bearers will be Richard Bjerke, Zack Findley, John Kennerson, Eleazar Pena, Cade Whitfield and James Vineyard.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
