---- — Carolyn J. Hardy, 79, passed away from this earth peacefully Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at University Park surrounded by her loving family.
Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home.
Carolyn was born Oct. 4, 1933 to Vern and Helen Kirkland of Mystic. She was a long time resident of Des Moines, living in the Oak Park neighborhood for 45 years. While raising her family, Carolyn was a long time volunteer at Oak Park Grade School, PTA President at Warren Harding Jr. High, Camp Fire Leader, Blue Star volunteer and was a long time member of Epworth Methodist Church. She enjoyed life and spending time with family, especially her great-grandchildren.
After the passing of her husband, Johnny, in 2004, Carolyn moved to Walden Point Assisted Living for five years and ended her time at University Park. She was always positive and appreciative of everything and everyone in her life. She will be missed dearly by family and many friends whose lives she touched.
Left to cherish Carolyn’s memory are her children, Gregory Hardy of Des Moines, Pamela (Steve) Smith of Saylor Township and Janell (Bret) Robben of Bondurant; grandchildren, Dustin (Amanda) Robben of Des Moines, Kyle (Anastasia) Robben of Bondurant, Steffanie Smith and Nick Smith of Ankeny; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Braxton, Brooklynn, Aaliyah and Brecken Robben.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
