Ezra Arthur “Art” Hermon, 58, of Centerville, was called home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by family.
He was born Nov. 19, 1955 in Centerville. Ezra was united in marriage to Connie Marie Hermon (Clinkenbeard) Aug. 31, 1974 at the Mt. Hermon Methodist Church in Chariton, Mo.
Ezra is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie Marie Hermon of Centerville; his daughter, Shyrel (Donnie) Sindelar of Centerville; his son, Samuel (Jennifer) Hermon of La Salle, Colo.; a daughter, Cordelia (Moises) Gonzalez of Evans, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Emmaretta and Teresa Hermon of Centerville, Avelina, John Paul and Mordecai Hermon of La Salle, Colo., Gabriel, Celso and Eliana Gonzalez of Evans, Colo.; his sister, Sue (Rick) Traxler of Centerville; a brother, James (Tara) Hermon of Festus, Mo.; a brother, Aaron (Norah) Hermon of Burnsville, Minn.; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Minnie Hermon; his in-laws, Billie G. Clinkenbeard and Jewel D. St. Amant; his grandparents; several aunts, uncles, cousins; two brothers-in-law; and an infant nephew.
Ezra attended Putnam County High School in Unionville, Mo., graduating with the class of 1973. He spent his life growing up and working on the family farm in Chariton, Mo. Ezra also began a career as a licensed practical nurse in 1977. His career in nursing would span nearly 30 years.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Ezra also loved playing the guitar and singing music with his wife, other family members and friends. He played with several different bands over the years and performed at the Putnam County Fair, Centerville Pancake Day, Greeley Colorado Stampede and the Cheyenne Wyoming Frontier Days. Ezra placed first in a Battle of Guitar competition in Estes Park, Colo. With the help of his dad, Ezra began playing the guitar and singing at a young age. He could not read any notes or sheet music; he played all music by ear and could play all string instruments.
