---- — Ruth Christine Hedberg, 93, of Centerville, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Loy and Cecile (Higdon) Tipton on August 12, 1920 in Moulton. She graduated from the Moulton High School.

On March 17, 1942, Ruth was united in marriage to Hugh “Midge” Hedberg in Unionville, Mo. She first started working at Sebben’s Dairy Crème in Centerville, and later it would be renamed to Raymond’s Dairy Crème, where she would work for over 30 years. She was a lifetime member of the Eagle’s Club in Centerville and was Past President of the Eagle’s Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh Hedberg in 1980; sisters, Fern Morrison, Pauline Bailey and Hazel Belloma; and a her long-time companion, Julius “Boomer” Dove on November 1, 2013.

Ruth is survived by: her daughter, Beverlee Howe and her husband, James of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Cathy and her husband, Michael Britt of Batavia, Chris and her husband, Mike Durflinger of Bloomfield, Jim Howe of Ottumwa and Eric Howe and his wife, Jamie of Agency; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; brothers, Junior Tipton of Moberly, Missouri, Rex Tipton of Moulton and Max Tipton of Newton; sisters, Enid Moulton of Moulton, Patty Edwards of Moulton, Helen Harrington of Unionville, Iowa, Garnett Landtiser of Bloomfield and Lola Hinerman of Warrensburg, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 27 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation was held on Saturday, April 26 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be present one hour before services on Sunday at the funeral home. Following the burial, the family will be having a luncheon at the Eagle’s Club in Centerville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either the American Cancer Society or to Hope Lodge in Iowa City and can be left or mailed to the funeral home. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home of Centerville has been entrusted with caring for the Hedberg family at this time and condolences can be sent at
