ENGLEWOOD, Fla. —
Billy D. Whisler, 86, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Unionville, Iowa, died Sunday, Easter morning, at 10:10 a.m. March 31, 2013 at his Sarasota County residence.
Born on March 15, 1927 in Unionville, Iowa, he grew up in Unionville on his parent’s farm with his five brothers and six sisters. A graduate of Unionville High School in 1944, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1947 Billy married Helen Padavich of Centerville. He moved to Cedar Lake, Ind. where he was a police officer and a volunteer firefighter. In 1972 he and Helen moved to southwest Florida to manage apartments/condos.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Helen; two sons, Billy, Jr. and Phillip “Mickey”; 11 grandchildren; four brothers, Bob, Donald, Larry and Jerry; one sister, Carol; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
A visitation and service were held with interment in Sarasota National VA Cemetery.
