Thomas Leonard Doggett, 77, of Lowell, died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at University Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City.
Mr. Doggett was born in Udell on Oct. 10, 1936, the son of Hallie U. and Evelyn Z. Morris Doggett. On Jan. 2, 1958, he married Marcella Ann Micetich in Centerville. He was a 1954 graduate of Udell High School.
He worked for 41 years for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1998. He also worked for Morrell’s in Ottumwa and farmed. He was a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and the Blue Bird Society. He enjoyed being outdoors doing gardening and yard work, hunting and fishing. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. As a child of 10, he accepted Christ as his personal savior through the ministry of Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville. He was a current member of Faith Baptist Church in Danville where he was a charter member.
Mr. Doggett is survived by his wife of Lowell; sons, Steven (Beth) Doggett of Ottumwa and Richard Doggett of Lowell; daughters Cheryl (Earl) Thornburg of Keosauqua and Janet (Shawn) Morgan of Centerville; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother Lanny (Iva) Doggett of Udell; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10 at Elliott Chapel in New London. Pastor Edward Bunt will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Haines Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday at the Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials have been established to the Lowell Street Light Fund and to Southeast Renal Dialysis LC.
