---- — Richard Huber, Sr., 84, of Mercer, Mo., formerly of Centerville, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at his home.

He was born Aug. 7, 1929 in Fort Atkinson to Zeno P. and Mildred (Riehle) Huber. On Aug. 29, 1952 Richard entered in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Richard married Betty L. Strode in Rock Island, Ill. on Oct. 29, 1957.

Richard worked in the automotive industry as a mechanic for 35 years. Upon his retirement, he became the manager of the Centerville Airport. Richard was employed as the airport manager for nearly 10 years.

He engaged in numerous outdoor hobbies throughout his lifetime, most notably, fishing and hunting. Richard was raised in the Catholic Church and actively attended Sunday church services.

Richard is survived by his wife, Betty Huber of Mercer, Mo.; a son, Richard Huber, Jr. (girlfriend Angel Sellers) of Oskaloosa; a step-son, Evert Hayes of Centerville; two grandchildren, Anthony (Rachel) Huber of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and Michael (Amy) Hayes of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Savanah Huber of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a brother, James A. Huber of Steuben, Wis.; four sisters, Thelma (Calvin) Lair of Danville, Grace Pavlovec of Fort Atkinson, Ruth Pavlovec of Fort Atkinson and Helen (Edwin) Langreck of Fort Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Zeno W. Huber, Jr. and Robert Huber; three sisters, Marie Stafford, Coletta Ameling and Rose Stammeyer; and a step-son, Terry Hayes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 at the Lange Funeral Home with Father Duc Dominic Nguyen officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Elgin Cemetery in Mystic.

A memorial has been established to the family of Richard Huber, Sr. and may be left at the funeral home.
